Black Owned Business Listings
Over the past few years we have seen a return to the days of old. The days of overt racism being blasted in our faces and an increased resistance to dialogue about the covert racism that exist within foundational structures and institutions of American Society. We first saw George Zimmerman set free, then we saw the Jordan Davis “hung jury” travesty. We moved on to John Crawford which offered no indictment with video evidence, and now we find ourselves here again with Mike Brown and a failure to indict meaning there won’t even be a trial. Enough is enough, it is time to stop asking people to do things for us that we can do for ourselves. But the first step is economics:
What Are We Going To Do About It
We are going to house what will become the largest Black Business Database in America right here. Businesses can sign up and sign in but we will be doing checks to ensure that only black owned businesses populate this database. It is our hope that having a list of available businesses and contact information will help foster this culture of Black on Black Spending seeing both an increase in Black Business Revenues as well as an increase in the development of the Black Community.
There are a few apps out there to find Black Owned Businesses, we hope to keep this list up to date with them as we find them.
- Around the Way (Defunct)
For too long we have provided over 90% of our income to fueling the dominant society, the same society that refuses acknowledge wrong doing when it unjustly kills our children, beats our women, and imprisons our men; the same society that rewards perpetrators with hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and potentially millions of dollars from the planted hero status given to them. In doing so we co-sign the cultural theme that justifies these wrong doings and dehumanizes us as animals and monsters. We relinquish our resources that could be used to build our own institutions and in the poverty that remains, we beg others to provide for us. Of the 1.1 trillion dollars ($1,100,000,000,000) we spend, only an estimate 2% goes back into Black America. Some studies suggest that if we bumped that number up by just 8% we could create over 1 million new jobs in our community.
What Black on Black Spending means is that Black People will spend Black Dollars at Black Businesses whenever and where ever possible. This also means that Black Businesses being Black will also spend their money at other Black Businesses whenever they can. Finally, this means that if a Black Supplier for a product can’t be found, the community either locally or nationally will come together to create one and nurture it until it can stand on its own feet. We emphasize that while we only spend money with Black Businesses, we take money from everyone.
